Your Healthy Touch Massage

Describing a great Massage is not as easy as it might seem. Think about it. How much real mileage do we get out of descriptive words such as relaxation, relief and healthy? These words don’t offer enough to keep us interested and therefore educated.

Massage is all about experience. That is why we need to borrow words from other areas to describe the effect Massage has on us. Comparing it to food and its flavors is a fun and creative way to embrace the extraordinary world of Massage therapy.

The Main Course
Rich – Full bodied - Robust - Savory -Zesty

Ambrosia is the food of the gods and fit for a king. Therefore Massage as your main course may be best be described as Ambrosial. Dependent of your choice it may just be a heavenly, divine experience!
Therapeutic Massage: If you experience pain or stress from everyday life or are simply in need of some relaxation, this is for you. Commonly known as “Swedish Massage”, this is the classic, age old method. Therapeutic massage stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems while calming the nervous system. Used regularly over time, long lasting restorative assistance can be yours.
Cancer Massage: The pain and discomfort experienced by those undergoing treatment or who have recently completed treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation can be quite debilitating. This approach is specifically designed to help people through those trying times and assist them on the road to wellness. Focus is given to aid in improving mobility, strength and function as well as minimizing discomfort with special consideration given to the challenges that dealing with cancer can bring.
The Bountiful Bliss™: This is an Energetic Bodywork created and developed by David B. Blum and Energy Diagnostician Mega R. Mease. It is the best choice if you are seeking a completely different experience.

The Bountiful Bliss utilizes a unique blend of systematic bodywork and energy healing that encourages the left and right sides of the body to draw themselves into homeostasis organically.

It has been described as “feeling cellular”, promoting relaxation, and that it supports moving and releasing grief that is trapped in the body. It is a defined pathway that supports all individuals regardless of any physical and/or emotional challenges they are experiencing. You may experience the Bountiful Bliss™ as a beautiful stand-alone therapy or add 30 minutes of focused massage. The choice is yours.
30 Minute Focused Specialty Session: There are times when a client may have only one or two areas that are problematic so there is no need to work on the entire body. This approach works on specific issues to relieve pain and improve function in a short period of time. The goal is for you to leave relaxed, more comfortable and ready to go on with your day.
Pre-Natal Massage: Pregnancy is a time of dramatic change in body, mind and emotions. Pre-Natal massage encourages joy along with any discomfort and/or pain that may occur during the progress. This gentle system of mindful positioning and therapeutics help soothe the muscle and joint discomfort that may occur as well as assisting circulation. The mother to be and her baby both relax in comfort and safety.
Sports Massage: As a former athlete, I understand what it takes to perform at your very best. This deep tissue massage method is specifically designed to assist athletes in overcoming pain and stiffness that often occurs after a hard work out or event. While this massage may not feel soothing it tends to be effective in enhancing performance and aiding in recovery.

The Side Dish

While not always necessary, at times the perfect Side Dish may help to balance out, round out or in other ways compliment the Main Course.
Kinesio® Taping: Taping from a certified Kinesio® Taping professional offers an array of benefits. This method, while often seen on athletes is highly beneficial for anyone in need of assistance with muscle relaxation, facilitation, joint stabilization or motion. Improved circulation and lymphatic drainage are two more benefits that facilitate wellness in the recipient. This tape is often used in the rehabilitation setting for relief of pain and improvement of function. Some clients have referred to it as Magic because it can seem like that. It works by utilizing your body's sensory system to enhance function so when you go home, you may feel as if my hands are still doing their work.

Kinesio® Taping is available in conjunction with a massage appointment or as a stand-alone service. You can find more information on their website.
Myofascial Release: Fascia runs through your entire body and connects everything to everything else. Disruption in the fascial system can cause a wide variety of dysfunctions and pain. Myofascial release is used frequently as a less painful alternative to deep tissue work in the treatment of subacute and chronic soft tissue injuries such as whiplash, muscle strains and ligamentous injuries. It is generally done without any lubrication on the skin although can be done as part of an overall massage as well. Learn more about myofascial release here.
Strain Counterstrain: When a client has chronic and/or acute trigger or tender points that are not responding to conventional techniques, this osteopathic method may relieve pain. It does so by diminishing the reactivity of these areas quickly and in most cases relatively painlessly. A skilled hand is required to perform this technique. The effects can be long lasting comfort and posture.
Muscle Energy: Overly tight muscles from injury or trauma can be disabling. Derived from the Osteopathic world, this technique is used with stubbornly tight tissues. By contracting a muscle first and then, on relaxation applying a stretch, we use the reflex system to override the body’s natural protective defense system that is working overtime preventing movement. It is gentle and comfortable and allows for dramatically improved movement.
Craniosacral Therapy: Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of whole-body evaluation and treatment. that may have a positive impact on nearly every system of the body. Whether used alone or with more traditional healthcare methods, it has proven clinically effective in facilitating the body’s ability to self-heal. CST often produces extraordinary results. Learn more craniosacral therapy here.

Special Herbs and Spices

The purpose of these natural beauties is to complement the Main Course. Never do they disguise or obscure it. The key is to be selective in choosing their combinations, avoiding using too many at one time.

Effleurage: Working with “FLOW”, this is a very light and gentle introduction of the therapist’s hands to your skin while applying the oil or lotion. Using the fingers, palms, knuckles or forearms provides long smooth steady gliding strokes across a wide area allowing the opportunity for the therapist to feel the underlying tissue in search of places for more focused work.

Petrissage: “FLUSHING” is the intent here. Gently stretching, pulling and kneading the skin aids circulation, releases adhesions, reduces inflammation and flushes toxins from the underlying tissues. These motions are more about movement and warming than they are about relaxation.

Muscle Stripping: “ELONGATION” of tissue is the goal here. Long deep pressure strokes are applied moving in line with or directly across the fibers of the tissues using knuckles, thumbs, fingers or (for bigger and deeper tissues) elbows.

Friction: “WARMING” is the goal here. We all know that rubbing your hands together will warm them and this is no different. This can be done just on the skin or for deeper tissues all the way down to bone and ligaments, depending on the need. Rapid friction applied to the target area will create heat cueing the body to flush the area with fresh blood and breaks down stubborn adhesions and scar tissue.

Vibration: This is familiar to many who have used a vibrating massage chair or a handheld massager. This “SHAKING” helps to separate and relax tissues without a lot of pressure applied. This is often done in conjunction with friction.

Tapotement: Often seen on television or in movies, this technique looks like someone is being beaten but it is actually quite gentle and is done primarily to stimulate the nervous system and can help to bring someone out of the “massage fog” that sometimes occurs by the end of a great massage.
